Janet Napolitano: "The System Worked"

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told CNN on Sunday, regarding the attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to blow up Northwest Airlines flight 253 on Christmas day, "One thing I'd like to point out is that the system worked."

It did? The emperor has no clothes.

What worked is the common sense of the passengers. They subdued the guy so he couldn't detonate his bomb.

After being publicly called out on her statement, she withdrew it yesterday.

There is one thing I would like to point out about this ridiculous statement. Actually two.

First, America continues to choke on political correctness. We need to profile people for security purposes.

Phillip Baum, editor of Aviation Security International, an aviation and security training and consulting company in London, said yesterday, "The real problem lies in our determination to screen everybody in exactly the same way using technologies that are not fit for the purpose."

If you read his column, you will learn he is a strong advocate of profiling for security purposes.
He said, "Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year old alleged perpetrator of the Christmas Day attack, should have been identified as a potential threat to the flight both in Lagos and again in Amsterdam. Here was a passenger who had bought an expensive ticket in cash in a country different to that of his port of embarkation or his intended destination, was traveling without any checked luggage for a two-week trip over the Christmas period, and about whom some agencies, and his father, had security concerns. Its not rocket science we need; its the deployment of common sense."

Common sense. He advocates commonsense profiling.

Secondly, this incident, again, brings up the question of "truth" with this president and his administration.

It seems this administration will say anything to anyone to move their agenda forward and cover their back.

Even the Canada Free Press, whose logo states, "Because without America, There Is No Free World," is asking the question, "Does Obama Have The Ability to Tell The Truth?" regarding the economy, climate and health care.

There is a heightened cynicism and distrust for government in America that I have not seen in my lifetime. With the exception of a few, Jimmy Carter is generally viewed as one of the most ineffective presidents in recent times. However, his "malaise" doesn't even approach the conflicted confusion we see emerging in our country as we conclude the first decade of the 21st century.

I am certain you have read the words of Edmund Burke: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

God help us.

She makes her ridiculous statement boldly in our faces, while she is completely completely convinced that we the public can be so easily lulled into compliance. She speaks as if we do not have a brain in our heads nor the gumption to do anything about our government.

Not being liberal I am very slow to attack one's IQ, as some do. However I have come to the conclusion we have a bunch of idiots running this country, it is what it is. When a crisis occurs whether created by the Whitehouse or not, they just throw any old thing at the American people, and expect us to accept it. No wonder the American people are so angry. Everything is okay as long as we pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Unfortunately now that our society has been educated in order to be a service oriented country, rather than an industrialized nation, we see right through Obama and his Chicago politics. The Democrats are in for a very rude awakening in 2010, and the American people will remember for a very long time.

Gary as a newcomer to your site, I am very grateful for your insight and knowledge. I have determined to be more proactive this year instead of continueing to be one of the silent majority. I don't know if it is too late or not but I know I will sleep better at night knowing I have done what ever I could to stop the socialist takeover of our country. I am grateful to be an American and I intend to do whatever I can to maintain our freedoms. Thank you so much for stepping into the forefront.

I'm getting tired of hearing fishing stories about how the government is going to pay for it's health care ambitions.

It reminds me of Ole and Swen who counted up the cost of their fishing trip. After the cost of gas, bait, and boat rental, they found out the few fish they caught cost them, so much so, they decided it was a good thing they didn't catch any more.

I think the government should forget this whole health care thing and begin working on America's real problems like abortion, porn, gambling, and start taking down whatever it is that prevents this nation from becoming energy independent and
producing jobs and prosperity in the energy industry.

Let's pray they wake up quick.

The system failed when this guy got on the plane. He was in the system as a potential terrorist.

There are only 2 thing that I see as positive in this situation
(1) He didn't succeed
in blowing up the plane .
(2) He was placed on the potential terrorist list by another Muslim
,his father.

Instead of jumping on the conservative bandwagon of faux outrage over a twisting of Naplitano's words, maybe you should be questioning why Republican Senator Demint is continuing to block confirmation TSA chief. Or do you agree that attacking unions, such as those our nations police belong to, is more important than protecting travelers from terrorism?
