Christian Medical Association CEO Quits AMA
Dr. David Stevens, CEO of the 17,000 member Christian Medical Association, has sent a letter of resignation to the American Medical Association, canceling his membership.
Dr. Stevens says, "I can no longer associate with or support an organization that is unscientific, unprofessional and controlled by special interests."
He is asking the CMA's 17,000 members to carefully consider if they should continue their membership in the AMA.
Stevens told the AMA they have violated their own ethical statements at the behest of a vocal pro-abortion faction within the AMA.
He said, "Your resolution on right of conscience states that, 'AMA reaffirms that neither physician, hospital, nor hospital personnel shall be required to perform any act violative of personally held moral principles.' Yet you have worked vigorously at the federal level to overturn the only federal regulation that protects your members from this type of discrimination."
Dr. Stevens says the AMA's support of abortion and embryonic stem cell research, same-sex marriage and medical marijuana are examples of how their policies contradict and undermine the positions of many physicians and has resulted in membership declining from three in four practicing doctors being members in 1960, to one in five today.
Having met Stevens and shared a few public meetings with him, this does not surprise me. He is indeed a man of character and principle.
I sincerely hope his action will provide courage to others, both in and out of the medical field, to take a stand.
The fundamental institutions of our country---medicine, education, finance and the church, are experiencing a realignment, not primarily based on politics or in the case of the church, denomination, but on principle and deeply held beliefs.
It seems we have entered a time when everything that can be shaken is being shaken.
Pray for and support those who take the kind of stand Dr. Stevens has taken.

A problem I see is by separating they can become worse , if that is possible.

I applaud your stand. What you are doing is coming out & being separate, just like the bible states we are to do. We must live in the world, but we are not of the world, and we do not adhere to the world's standards. That is the point you are making, and that is commendable. Just like the catholic priests who deny the sacrament of communion to those who would advocate the torture & killing of unborn children, we are seeing more & more groups & individuals taking a stand for what is right.
"Anonymous" above compares what you are doing to Nazi Germany. Only one difference. We are not seeking to bring & preserve life, not death.

Yeah have some hemlock then. Why not smoke Poison Ivy. God has Given us many ways to make our lives easier and better, when you use a substance that makes rope, clothing, and other beneficial uses and smoke it , thats a counterfeit of Gods purpose and totally wrong to advocate for its use from a Bibical perspective.
If your talking about alleviating pain say when you have cancer, I understand your point. But you do realize mandating a doctor to subcribe it what the issue is about . Also medical marijuana has been used inappropriatedly , in California you get pot for stress. I suggest to understand where Christians are coming from here read your Bible , their is a good explanation of the point being made here when Paul teaches about food . Some people can eat it a certain kind and its no big deal , but to another group the food is considered unclean . Paul teaches us not to be a stumbling block , so if it is a stumbling block for a doctor to do an abortion , don't make him do it . Of course I myself can not understand how a Christian can not be pro life , but the religious left appear to be comfortable with it at least politically.
To a person with a substance abuse problem or one who considers it a sin to smoke pot , what you are doing is wrong. If you want to get high , that is your business.
Maybe no big deal if your an adult , quite hurtful if your a young person growing up and your body is developing and you are learning to relate with other people using a crutch . Besides health risks which are prevalent but have been exaggerated.
