Washington's Primary: The Big Experiment
It is rare when the Republicans and the Democrats fully agree on anything, but this year's primary has given us such a moment.
The new "top-two" primary will make its debut next Tuesday.
Republican Chair Luke Esser and Democrat Chair Dwight Pelz are both calling it "silliness piled on top of silliness".
It is very important that every citizen understand what is actually at stake in this new model.
The Seattle PI published an article that is helpful in trying to understand exactly what results could come from this primary.
Sec. of State Sam Reed says, "I think it's a little strange to have potentially two people of the same party in the general election."
That could happen.
The PI explains that all candidates for a given office are grouped together on the ballot.
The first and second place finishers in the primary advance to the general election in November even if they are of the same party affiliation.
This, of course, opens the elections to the possibility of several unwanted outcomes.
The PI article discusses these possibilities.
What I think is most important is the most obvious. Every citizen must vote.
This 2008 election is the most important election most of us will experience in our lifetime. Much hangs in the balance.
If Gregoire is re-elected and the Legislature remains essentially unchanged, it will embolden an already cocky homosexual lobby to make their move for so-called gay marriage. They lost when the people voted and they lost when the State Supreme Court heard the case to overthrow the will of the people in that vote, but with a submissive Legislature and an energized gay rights activist Governor, they are certain to make a move to once again subvert the will of the people.
And the pro-abortion lobby will continue to have their way in aborting babies and educating our children under the guise of health education. Their stated goal for this year is to expand their services.
And Gregoire will sign their bills with hands raised in victory.
This election will play out through the political process, but it is not about politics. It is about the cultural soul of the state and our communities. It's about what kind of community you are willing to give to your children and grandchildren.
You will decide, in this election, what our state, our community and our country will become for years into the future.
I pray we will have the will to get out and to vote conservative, biblical values.

Just what vote are you referring to, Gary? The WA state DOMA was passed by the legislature, not a popular initiative vote. Seems to me that if the legislature were to pass laws in favor of gay marriage, those "cocky" homosexual lobby would stand on just as firm ground vis-a-vis the will of the people, as the arrogant Christianist Lobby (FFN) does today!
