Michelle Obama Affirms Husband's Commitment to Homosexuals
Michelle Obama told a crowd of homosexual activists in New York that her husband wants to and will repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and reverse the rule on homosexuals in the military.
She compared the homosexual movement to that of the African Americans civil rights movement, referring to events "From Selma to Stonewall."
If DOMA is repealed, as she affirms, what impact would that have on individual states?
The impact may surprise you.
Fred Lucas at CNSNEWS described exactly what this would mean in individual states.
He says essentially, DOMA has two parts. First, it defines marriage as between one man and one woman. Secondly, it says a "homosexual marriage" in one state does not have to be recognized in another state.
The absence of DOMA could mean that more than 40 states that have bans on same-sex marriage would be required to recognize a homosexual "marriage" license from another state as a binding contract.
Lynn Wardle, a law professor at Brigham Young University, says this could effectively nationalize same-sex "marriage".
You may recall that McCain voted for DOMA in 1996, but has so far opposed a federal Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman on the grounds of his belief in federalism, believing that states should decide on the matter.
Mrs. Obama told the gathering of homosexual activists that her husband is taking this message to religious groups.
You will remember that Obama said earlier this year that he believes that Jesus' Sermon on the Mount justifies same-sex marriage.

There are two interesting things to note here:
1) Obama hasn't just made a commitment to "homosexuals"; he's made a commitment to all Americans. For example, he recently announced he would continue Bush’s faith-based initiatives. And he is much more visibly a Christian than McCain is. McCain seems like he’s pretending to be Christian. If you cannot see that McCain is suddenly playing the “Christian” role in order to get your vote, you're in denial.
2) DOMA is unconstitutional and will fall one day. Any straight couple who marries legally in any state will have their marriage recognized in every other – even if the state they are in wouldn't have allowed them to marry in the first place (for example, because of differing age requirements or 1st cousin relationships). DOMA unconstitutionally and unfairly denies that right to gays in legal marriages.
I understand you had hoped gays would never be able to marry, but now that we can legally marry in two states, how can a Christian support a federal law that so obviously separates one group of people for discrimination by throwing their family status in question as they move about the country?
We can argue all we want about whether states should allow gays to marry, but DOMA is pure and simple discrimination.
Obama understands this and is not going to insult our intelligence by pretending to be for something so discriminatory, despite his view that marriages should be for opposite-sex couples only.
McCain, on the other hand, is "in support of" DOMA simply to appeal to the religious right vote. McCain once labeled you "agents of intolerance" but now that he's running for president he wants to show you he's your best friend.

I thought Obama was running on the platform of change.....but all I see is more of the same from him. Talking out of both sides of his mouth. On the one hand telling people of faith he supports and wants to expand the faith based initiative and on the other he wants to promote a Gay and Lesibian agenda. More politcal double talk, which means he is nothing new.
randw,
Why do you think gay rights and faith-based initiatives are mutually exclusive?
I think Obama plans to represent all of us, not just some of us.

When John McCain was in a POW prison In Hanoi , he gave one of the best sermons some of the men their woth them have forward to say they ever heard . McCain was called on to give religious services from time to time there .
Why that is not front page news in his campaign literature speaks about the character of the man , not if his politics are what we need as a nation , but his character is an example for all of us Tony .
He Preached on Sunday about praying , and told the men do not expect God to come out of the sky and save them . Ceasar put them in their predictament , and Ceasar would have to get them out . He told the men that they needed to be in prayer every day and ask the lords help , to help them with their character , patience , and strength .
No Tony , your politics show you are no better here then what you accuse others of . Some people
show their faith differently , Obama is articulate and has a liberal theology . McCain lived by his faith in the rat hole . He has a much more reserved way of showing his Faith .
Your not in denial , your something totally different .
Mick
Tony,
You are the one in denial. Your life style does NOT create a family nor can it ever. Have you read he book "The Emperor Has No Clothes"? No matter how much you use fancy arguments even a child can see the simple truth. Two men can't make a family, neither can two women. "Mommy, what do they mean? Even I know it takes a man and a woman."
Get it? Your tiny minority is certainly persistent with their rhetoric but you can't change the obvious no matter how many words you use.
That's my two cents and that's all it takes is two cents to see through your perversion of the natural design. PERIOD.

You might want to think through the consequences of your arguments before you post. I rather doubt that you want to make ability or intent to procreate a requirement for marriage. Yikes, talk about unintended consequences!
anon 807,
The conseqquences of fighting discrimination in marriage laws has been the backbone of gay activists .
Yet gays being allowed to be married only stops discrimination againt gays , not all the other citizens that are discriminated against . So the issue of only changing marriage laws for gays to stop discrimination is bogus .
Its special rights , as are the laws now , marriage laws have standsrds designed to promote families , in special categories , that society believes is in the best interest of us all .
Gay marriage to be included in that I would hope would have better reasons then special rights , ridiculing another's opinion or religion .
Hence your opinion is like they say , is like a butt . Everyone has one .

If this happens, my guess is that an all knowing being would judge skeptics pretty favorably if they had done good things for the sake of doing good things, not from fear of some vengeful overlord.
