WA State Legislative Session: A City Of Two Tales

As the Washington State Legislative session began this week, the liberal, unrestrained Democratic leadership went to great length to assure the public that they would not do much in this session.

Why would they feel the need to make such statements? It seems that this may be a city of two tales.

House Speaker, Frank Chopp, D-Seattle, told the Associated Press that the issues they plan to address will be small-scale, "kitchen-table" type issues. (Read Article.)

Senate Majority Leader, Lisa Brown, D-Spokane, says they will address the "Rising anxiety about the economy." She told the AP that Washingtonians are feeling a sense of economic and political uncertainty.

She may well be on to something here. There may be more anxiety and uncertainty with the present majority leadership than they think.

In the same spirit, Gov. Gregoire tells the AP that, "We will hold the line." Does that suggest they have not done so in the past?

Clearly there is an attempt to move away from their past fiscal performance.

If they don't feel comfortable with their past performance, why, then, should voters feel comfortable in handing them the future again?

Dino Rossi knows. He told AP, "They suddenly got religion" but they aren't credible on the issue of fiscal responsibility (same article linked above). He said "They are faux conservatives" and are trying to hoodwink the voters.

So, people who have led the state with a large majority in the Legislature and the Governor's office, are wanting to change their MO and appear to be something very different, in order to be re-elected.

But there is yet another tale to this city. Their present silence on social issues are deafening.

Last year, Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, on the occasion of Gov. Gregiore signing their newly passed Domestic Partnership Law, told the Seattle Times, "Today is a beginning, not an end." This, of course, after a couple of years or more denying that they were really using "benefits" as a stepping stone toward gay marriage.

On the week the law went into effect, he again told the Times, "This isn't an end."

They are silent on these matters this session because they don't want to negatively affect any of the district elections and particularly the Governors race. Gregiore should be especially concerned, because she must know that she didn't actually win the last election.

It is common knowledge among people of faith and conservatives that the majority in Olympia has taken every opportunity to advance both a fiscal and a social agenda that is unacceptable.

The city has two tales.

The lawmakers have spent without restraint, yet they would have you forget about that for a few months and focus on the "kitchen table" issues.

These same elected officials have advanced anti-family and anti-traditional marriage bills and have worked hard to use public education as a social laboratory, practicing "information as indoctrination" to prepare the way for acceptance of their actions and liberal, secularist beliefs.

They now hope you will focus on the "kitchen table," while forgetting the other; at least long enough to get re-elected so they can go back to the original tale.

People of faith and conservatives need to show up in 2008. If you will, we really can, "Change The State in '08".

Gary, thanks for calling things the way they are. I am an elected state senator (R). We have tried to combat the insanity but don't have the numbers. Keep up the good work.

You can always tell its an election year when the democrats start talking about saving the tax payers money . I guess they are good at it , since they keep taking it from us and we don't have it to save ourselves .
