High School Teacher Attacks Christianity
James Corbett, a high school teacher, has been sued for statements he made in his Advanced Placement European history class.
According to court documents filed by Chad Farnan, 16, and his parents Bill and Teresa, Corbett made "highly inappropriate" and offensive statements in class regarding Christianity.
Their suit contends, among other things, that Corbett told the students during class that, "When you put on your Jesus glasses, you can't see the truth."
He also said that, "Religion is not connected with morality," and compared Christians to "Muslim fundamentalists" who, according to Corbett, "want women to stay pregnant, barefoot and in the kitchen and have babies until your body collapses." He also suggested that church-goers are more likely to commit rape and murder.
Capistrano Valley High School Principal Tom Ressler is defending Corbett and said he is a "solid" teacher who has been with the school district for more than 15 years. He added that his class is popular and that it has a high pass rate. In defending the teacher he said they would have to look at the context and all that was said.
The problem he may have in defending that kind of unacceptable behavior in the classroom is that Chad, the student, has been taping his lectures for more than two months. Apparently the tapes are pretty telling.
The LA Times reported that Teresa became suspicious the first day of class when her son came home asking whether the Founding Fathers used Christian principles when they founded America. Chad told his mother that the teacher said they did not.
Chad said, "He is against Christianity and he bashes it all the time. He also said, "He has been indoctrinating us, not teaching the class. We don't need to be hearing his political views during school time when we should be learning."
Chad is an honor student and has left the class since the suit was filed. He and his parents are merely asking that the teacher be removed from that class on the basis that he is discriminating against those of Christian faith.
While there are those who consistently dismiss these kinds of events as rare and isolated, or simply deny that it even happened, it is happening all to often. And we can only imagine how many times this kind of incident goes unchallenged because a child does not want the attention and often ridicule that may go with challenging this kind of performance in the classroom.
To reshape and secularize America the so-called progressives have focused on the public classroom. Both history and morality have been revised. The Biblical basis for both law and social contract in America has been marginalized and ridiculed in public education, while actual historical events have either been revised to support the progressive agenda or simply deleted in that support.
Faith and Freedom, as you may know, has initiated a student campaign to "Change Your Culture." Our first leadership retreat exceeded our expectations. More are planned. Contact us for more information.
It has been said that any organization is only one generation away from extinction. If that is true, and I believe it is, then America must pay attention to what our children are being taught.
Abraham Lincoln said, "The philosophy of the classroom today will be the philosophy of government tomorrow."
God help us.

*IF* the teacher made those comments he probably needs to be teaching elsewhere - shocked? Shoot this is America and people have a right to be superstitious if they want to be and this wasn't a 'comparative religion' class.
Still I find it ironically humorous that the family is using an evangelical equivalent to the ACLU to proceed with this case - are you just as 'outraged' by the interference of this outside agency? Take off your 'glasses' if you can't see the humor of it all ;)
Happy Holiday - and a Joyous Solstice on Friday!
This seems to be a pretty good argument for keeping religious expression out of public schools completely.
Perhaps we agree on something after all.

Mark so your answer to anyone who makes a bigoted comment about anyone and any group of people is to reward the bigoted comments and treating the group like they are second class citizens . So lets not talk about Jews and the Holacaust , Pilgrims , gays that have been persecuted ? Seems to me the problem is the teachers .
Oshtur , have you heard of this ?
There will be no Nativity Scene in the United State Congress, this year! The Supreme Court has ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene in the United States capitol this Christmas season. This isn't for any religious reason, they simply have not been able to find three wise men and a virgin in the Nation's capitol. There was no problem, however, finding enough asses to fill the stable.
Did I have you going ?
Mick

Humor!? Humor having our Christian nation's schools teaching our future leaders of this country the opposite of what our forefathers want them to learn? I don't find this humorous--I find this a tragedy, and when situations like this come up, they need to be stopped!
Mick, very funny - but wasn't that at the White House?
And anonymous, the humor is in an ACLU-like organization doing for this kid exactly the same kind of thing that has been decried in this blog many times in the past. Must be those situational ethics these guys are so famous for. ;)
Thanks Oshtur, yep I include Bush in that joke for sure .
Chill out anom , we are not a Christian Nation besides .
If we ever were one , that has long gone . We have how many abortions a year in this country ?
Tax supported also !
Our political system , the one that has so much support from conservatives such as myself has been doing what and in bed with who ? Not Christians my friend , I don't take credit for all the pork and corruption as of late in the GOP . Well maybe I am reponisoble somewhat , I sure have supported Republican politics over the years .
Have you been involved in public schools ? I would suggest you check it out , Envirnomental issues take precedence over the Constitution as far as academics , Evolution is taught as fact , the only theory stated is the specfics , and right and wrong is left to the beholder . Having any mention of the scriptures is prohibited unless you are quoting the Founding Fathers , I have a prayer from a Native American on the walls of my local public school , if it was from one of the Gospels it would cause some to fall down , andthat is not because they have been slain in the spirit .
No offense intended to you , but your a little late in getting upset about it . I am glad Gary makes it known to people , but this has been going on for quite some time . The nastiness of this person that Gary exposed gets people upset , but what has been going on in the classroom is closer to the frog anaology that I am sure you are aware of . Our culture is changing to the secualism world view , call it humanism or whatever , the Christian World View will remain , because of Christ , not me and you .
In that we share I believe , Thank God !
Vishtur and I use to be quite nasty to one another , he and I made a pack a while back , and he has kept his word to be civil , I wish politicians who catered to conservatives like myself could say the same , huh ?
