Gay Rights Activists Expect to Gain Ground Next Session
Gay rights activists and lawmakers in Washington State are optimistic that the upcoming legislative session will be a productive one for them.
While they are not all saying the same thing, they are definitely going in the same direction.
The Seattle P.I. ran a story a few days ago, "Gay Rights Advocates Expect A Productive Session," which quotes both Josh Friedes, advocacy director of Equal Rights Washington, and Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, openly gay leader of the gay rights agenda in the legislature.
The gay agenda has been politically evolving over the past few years. Murray seems to be more evolved that Friedes.
Friedes says the gay rights process should be a vibrant discussion about the needs of Washington families. "This," he says, "is ultimately a human story and should not be a political story."
However, that's an old line taken from last year's talking points, used prior to the legislature passing a domestic partner bill.
Murray says the gays have a new strategy. They tried to win gay marriage through the courts and failed, now they have politicized it. And he's positive about the outcome. He told the P.I., "We have yet to go through an election cycle where we talk to legislators and raise money for legislators around the issue of marriage."
He told the P.I. the idea of openly pursuing gay marriage by steadily expanding gay rights granted by domestic partnerships laws began in earnest this year.
Keep in mind, we were saying several years ago that the push for "benefits" was more of a smoke screen than a legitimate desire for "benefits" and would be a slippery slope. The elitists and those who want to be, soundly criticized us and others who were making that argument. We said it was really about re-engineering marriage and the family.
While Friedes is still staying with the old line like, "We hope to increase the protections available to gays and lesbian families in Washington State," and I'm sure he is, homosexuals don't seem to be as eager to access the benefits as he is to get them. Somehow the interest in "benefits" was considerably higher prior to the "stepping stone" gay legislation our legislators passed, than it is now.
In fact, Focus on The Family recently reported that after the initial burst of interest in the states that passed civil unions, they are now finding that few same sex couples sign up. This includes Vermont, New Jersey, and Connecticut which is showing only 372 applications this year.
We called Olympia yesterday to get a current count and were told they would have to call us back. As of this morning, they have not returned the call. I'm quite sure it will be consistent with other states over a comparable period of time.
The P.I. also reported what could be seen as a veiled threat. Murray told the paper, "If (Rossi) decides to use marriage equality [that would be gay marriage] for gay and lesbian people an issue, it will back fire in his face." He said he could name more than a dozen right-wing Republicans who made an issue of their support for traditional marriage and opposed gay marriage that are now gone.
As we have said, the "benefits" agenda was not about benefits, it was about marriage.
Gay marriage will open the door to completely re-engineering human society as it has been for more than 5,000 years. Traditional marriage and the family unit is the cornerstone upon which society has been built. It is the foundation that provides vitality to the human experience.
It is the norm that has accommodated alternative forms of family composition under the idea of diversity and tolerance. When the norm is gone, chaos will follow at some point. Every major religion has advocated for heterosexual marriage.
There are those that are even now preparing the way for the next evolution of society--beyond gay marriage.
Please check out this link. Beyondgaymarriage.org has laid out the plan. It will begin the day gay marriage is enshrined into law.
Senator Dan Swecker has written an excellent response to beyond gay marriage. It's worth the read.
Biblical, traditional marriage is worth fighting for. And in Washington State the battle is well under way.
The gay activists are well funded and generally have the support of the media. Conservatives and people of faith are often characterized by the press and others as back ward, splintered and in a no win position.

Gay marriage will open the door to completely re-engineering human society as it has been for more than 5,000 years.
Exactly how does that happen? I mean allowing 2% of the population access to the same legal contract in support of their marriage as the other 98% has will change what exactly?
…and Connecticut which is showing only 372 applications this year.
And if looking at last year's Connecticut marriages is indicative that would mean they account for about 2.1% of the combined licenses issued. Totally representative of out gay people's presence in the population (about 2%). What were you expecting for a 'marriage light' contract?
Always amusing that on the one hand you don't want gays to marry, but on the other you complain when they don't take to the half-loaf offered more enthusiastically than straight people do to their special right of secular marriage contracts. Make up your mind!
I'm quite sure it will be consistent with other states over a comparable period of time.
No doubt it will - I predict they will be at least representative of out gay people in the general population if not higher. Now in the one state where there is actual marriage equality in the first year those with same gender spouses licensed the contract at over 9 times the rate of their heterosexual counterparts accounting for over 18% of all licenses issued.
Acknowleding all citizens have a right to marry their spouse isn't (or shouldn't) be scary. Relax and have a happy holiday season ;)
I followed the link to beyondgaymarriage.org and learned that those are some hardcore socialists. They may not be official members of the party, but their rhetoric is definitely socialist. They basically want everyone (except the rich) to be able to get some kind of handout from the government. That is their new strategy for equality and justice.
anonymous, I agree. And if you read it you know its goals actually has nothing to do with equal access to the existing secular contract of marriage. Instead it is about making something else - and those endorsing it are of all sexual orientations.
Its mention is a red herring which is why I didn't address it - there is a world of difference between asking that all citizens have reasonable access to the current contract and saying there needs to be an entirely new contract available. Allowing one will not lead to the other.
Gary...
I hope Christians out there can see through these veiled scare tactics for what they really are: a push to raise cash.
Anyone who has a gay person in their life knows that when we meet someone special, fall in love, and choose to build a family, it's about finding happiness and love. Do you truly believe that there's a secret plan to destroy the family? For what purpose? Where will gay people go when society collapses? Give me a break.
If gays want to destroy the traditional family, all we have to do is stand back and watch straights pull it apart themselves. Marriage rates are plummeting, divorce rates are skyrocketing, and young members of society are opting in increasing numbers to shack up rather than marry. Can you blame them -- a vast majority of them view it as a discriminatory institution.
Gary sites an expected decline in civil unions in Connecticut as evidence that gays don't really want marriage. At what point do we deny straights marriage due to waning interest? We've already reached the point in this country that if you are married, you are in the minority. I say when you hit 40%, we pull the plug. Do you agree?
Of course not. As Gary states, marriage is important -- so much so that gays simply want to marry, too. Period. End of story. It's as simple as that.
If you want to view gays as out to dismantle this wonderful country or as enemies of human society, so be it. I can't stop you. It's what Gary and others like him want, so send them your cash, and when you see a gay person, let your heart fill with hatred and anger and venom.
But remember, you are talking about real people out there -- your friends and neighbors. Gays are not faceless boogie-men and -women. We are human beings.
Before you make us your enemy, I encourage you to make an effort to discover for yourself whether the claims Gary makes are true. Seek out gay people in your life and start a conversation. How do you know you are gay? Why do you want to marry? Soon enough, you'll discover truths -- it doesn't matter whether you ultimately agree on marriage or other issues. What do you have to lose?
And when you check out beyondgaymarriage.com (which Gary has tirelessly linked to before) and freak out over its mission statement, click the "About Us" link and you'll learn that these are the thoughts of 20 people in New York City. Then click "Signatories" and you'll see a list of people who agree with that mission statement. I've frankly seen bigger lists on wedding seating charts. I never even heard of this site until Gary introduced it to me. If this is Gary's proof of a greater evil plan to bring down America, I'm not impressed.

The Antichristian folks are the smartest people in the room. Just ask them, they will tell you. Look how they explain away everything.
Right about that Gary . The gay political action groups are already geared up .
I don't see it getting stopped by anyone except maybe newly elected democrats in some districts that have been traditionally republican or swing districts . But the majoity is so strong in this state , the gay marriage issue will surly be moved forward .
The activists feel they are owed big time for their past support and loyalty to the party of tolerance .
The Antichristian folks are the smartest people in the room. Just ask them, they will tell you. Look how they explain away everything.
Ah you give too much credit - its easy to explain away lies and misrepresentations, a person just has to have a tiny desire to find out what's true rather than accepting demagoguery as fact.
"The Antichristian folks are the smartest people in the room."
Funny, I don't see any Antichristian folks here, I do see some, who disagree with FFN's agenda, but surely no thinking person thinks this is anti-chrisitian?
