Planned Parenthood Still Dealing In Deceit
Planned Parenthood is at it again. This time they have tried to open a large "superstore" type abortion clinic under an assumed or DBA name, and have gotten caught.
As the deception has come to light, they have launched a campaign of denial and attack on those who oppose them, but Mayor Tom Weisner may not be buying it.
It's very intriguing how the cover up came to light.
The site, in Aurora, Ill., is zoned for medical offices. Under a temporary occupancy permit Planned Parenthood used the name of Gemini Health Center. Planned Parenthood repeatedly listed the name of the owner as Gemini Medical Center during the permit and construction process, never revealing the actual plan for the center.
Ironically, it was a construction worker who first started questioning why a regular medical facility had so many surgical rooms and wondered, out loud, why the windows they were installing were bullet-proof glass.
Community leaders and pro-life advocates became outraged that such a huge abortion operation could be built with no input from the city or it's residents. This then triggered an investigation by the city.
Now Steve Trombley, president of Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area, has written a three page letter to the mayor and all twelve city alderman, saying, "I want to assure you that Planned Parenthood was open and truthful throughout the extensive permitting process...." Then, he attacks the pro-life people by saying they, "have a well-documented history of advocating violence...as well as other related criminal activity."
These charges have already been filed a few years ago in a suit against the same people by the National Organization of Women. The US Supreme Court has ruled three different times in favor of the pro-life activists. The Court has said yes, they do have a right to demonstrate and their activities were not considered violent or advocating violence.
Trombley told the Chicago Tribune that the reason PP left it's name off the application was so it would not alert the opponents of the clinic.
Mayor Weisner now is saying that the "clinic" may not open, as scheduled, on September 18. He said,"We're not going to allow operations to begin until we've accomplished the investigation."
And the city has hired an outside attorney to conduct an investigation as to the legality of the permit process and using the name, Gemini Medical Center as a front.
A couple of things come to my mind.
First, Planned Parenthood is desperate, despite a record breaking year of income. Their last annual report shows a drop in donations and the first decrease in income from their clinics in their history.
Their total income was up last year at $902.8 million with expenses at $847 million showing a profit of $55.8 million. The reason they were profitable is because they received $305.3 million from tax payers. That would be you and me. All the time lobbying Congress to eliminate funding for abstinence-only education.
Le Ann Benn, Director of Teen-Aid, sent me a report and analysis from PP's 2005-2006 annual report. You may want to read it.
Secondly, it comes to mind that if people of faith will act on their beliefs, it can make a difference -- even in the case of a behemoth like Planned Parenthood. Even though it is the biggest abortion profit machine in America, people who have stood up for their beliefs are beginning to make a difference.
Perhaps, if people of faith will stand up for their beliefs in Washington State, we also can make a difference. Perhaps, with God's help, we can "Change The State in '08 ."
I sincerely believe we can and will.
