Faith and Freedom Network: The Tale of the Botched Joke

Thursday, November 02, 2006

The Tale of the Botched Joke

Yesterday, John Kerry became the news. As the story developed around the world, Kerry definitely said he “would apologize to no one.” But in the end, after much criticism of liberal Democrats, he posted an apology, of sorts, on his website last night.

America rejected Kerry when he wanted to be President and I would suspect that many really don’t care what he thinks about the military or anything else, except that Kerry is a leader in one of our two major political parties and therein is the story.

There are two very different visions for America. The one is to evolve into a global village with the rest of the world; the other is to stay true to the ideas of our Founding Fathers and the Judeo-Christian principles upon which they built this country. The one view values patriotism, tradition and the culture that has developed around those values. They believe in the “city on a hill” that has created the greatest nation in the history of the world. The other sees America as responsible for terrorism, environmental pollution, and most of the other ills that plague humanity.

The commitment to the so-called “elite progressive” view runs deep among many in our country. Fortunately, they are not a majority.

These kinds of incidents bring clarity to the difference between the two views.

This morning, ABC is running a story trying to clarify, not what Kerry said, but what he “meant” to say. Yesterday the media, including our own outlets here in the Northwest, were framing the incident as a “war of words” between the President and John Kerry. Clearly they couldn’t control the story, but we have to wonder how many stories they do control, particularly at election time.

The media knows full well that Kerry’s distain for the military and our country in general is a long-standing passion with him. And speaking out on these issues is a long-standing habit with him. When he came back from Vietnam, he threw his medals (or ribbons?) away publicly in protest, joined Jane Fonda and others speaking publicly against our country and slandered his comrades in arms, saying that in the mode of Genghis Khan, they raped and pillaged their way across Vietnam. In the end, he couldn’t prove his allegations – but he tried.

Yet the media and the secularist liberals protect these folks to the end.

And it probably is the end of any significant influence from Mr. Kerry.

The media and his colleagues have already jettisoned him with several politicians asking him not to campaign for them.

The story in this tale is not so much about Kerry as it is about the length to which secularists and elitists will go to appear to be something other than what they really are.

In fact, the tendency to appear to be something other than what one really is is so prevalent that there is a phrase that’s used to describe it – “running toward the middle.” I suppose that could be described as being everything to everyone.

The decisions we make today will directly impact our children and our grandchildren.

The words of James Garfield loom large today. “Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them.” (Atlantic Journal 1877).

Both the future and the responsibility are in the hands of the voter. Vote wisely and vote your values.

Typical Gary.
Nothing about any of the issues that are actually important for these elections (not even the selective few that he always focuses on)
Nothing about anyone who is actually running for an office in this election.
It involved a Democrat - so it was mandatory to question the very thing he demanded just a day before.
Can't be accurate, so we'll describe it as "America rejected Kerry" for president, when he actually recieved the second highest number of votes ever for president and came extremely close to winning it.
Despite that the media has been the GOP's best friend through all of this, running this story non stop and up front for days and ignoring Bush equating the Democrats with terrorists (a much more offensive and derogatory comment than even what Kerry is misinterpreted to have meant), can't lose the false myth of the "liberal media bias" so we'll bemoan about being victimized by the media again.
And despite a long and full record of indisputable patriotism and actual concrete support for the military, let's make sure we drag Kerry's name through the mud and make some more trashy, inaccurate accusations about him.
ANd above all, without actually saying "Republican" we have to make it crystal clear that voting for them is a vote for "values", for "Judeo-Christian principles", "patriotism", and that America is the "greatest nation in the history of the world" - and voting for Democrats is the polar opposite.

It's all about being misleading, telling half-truths, telling flat out lies, and doing absolutely everything to kepe up the charade of equating the Republicans with Jesus and equating the Democrats with the Devil. And that is so disgusting, dishonest, distasteful, and dishonorable that every Christian American should be calling out and denouncing Gary and anyone else like him for doing so.

So, misconstruing the intent of a botched joke from a guy who was a candidate two years ago is the best you guys have. Oh yeah, best keep this front and center until the election.

You wouldn't want people to think about:

* The deteriorating mess in Iraq
* The dibilitating effect it's had on our military readiness
* The worsening conditions for our dwindling middle class
* A health care system that costs double other industrialized countries yet ranks 37th or worse in overall performance and is getting more unaffordable by the day
* A government that denies global warming while the oil companies are spending millions for drilling rights in presently ice covered arctic regions they believe will be thawed at some point in the future

Nope, channel your hate for John Kerry folks and vote to stay the course because they're doing such a great job!

Mr. Randall falls back on the standard Kerry talking points from the 2004 presidential election. He says Kerry ". . .joined Jane Fonda and others speaking publicly against our country and slandered his comrades in arms, saying that in the mode of Genghis Khan, they raped and pillaged their way across Vietnam. In the end, he couldn’t prove his allegations – but he tried."

Actually the record of atrocities in Vietnam by US forces is very clear, well documented and Mr. Kerry's descriptions were quite accurate. If any one actually examines the record of Kerry's testimony and speeches, it is clear that he isn't trying to slander his "comrades in arms," but is rather putting the blame firmly at the feet of the political leadership that got the US into Vietnam, and then kept us there well past when it was obviously a strategic and moral catastrophe.

Mr. Randall is acting in the typical fashion of an "elitist" who uses jingoist nationalism to silence dissent, and to obscure the record that as I said before is quite clear on the matter of US crimes in Vietnam, and now in Iraq.

Oh and Gary, I don't hate America, nor do I blame it for "for terrorism, environmental pollution, and most of the other ills that plague humanity;" but I do reserve the right to hold the government of the United States responsible for such things when it is reasonable to do so. That is how we solve problems in this country.

We don't do it by living out a political mythology that posits that America is beyond criticism.

I am by no means an elitist. I never got a degree from a university, I am mostly self-educated, and I work as I meat cutter. But Mr. Randall would have others believe, that liberalism comes from so sort of ivory tower where men who are our betters decide how the world should be governed.

In fact it is the opposite. It is men like Mr. Randall who presume to know, understand, and interpret American history, and Christian theology. It is they who play God.

The sad thing is:

Why would John Kerry be news for anybody????

I care not one wit for John Kerry or the Democratic party.

The only people who would waste their time on John would be those seeking use his inability to properly speak for their own political gain.

What would Jesus do???? May I suggest that Jesus would forgive John and encourage him to try to be more careful in his speaking??? Yes! Of course - Jesus will work to build each one of us up and into a knowledge of the truth.

Satan, on the other hand, will attempt to tear apart and shred - to steal, kill and destroy.

What do we see in Gary's blogs - a sincere effort to bring Kerry to repentance or ?????

Just a few thoughts from the Kingdom of God.

Peace,
In Christ,

Here is a thought-When the president says something an the media is gung ho on getting it out there slamming it on every channel and when a democrat (the medias biased party) says something...it is quietly back peddled and secretly protected. Face it. If you want the real truth do not get it from your TV(they are mostly democrates). Get it from your bible. Then from Godly sources you can trust. Faith and Freedom.

Please come back to the real world.

The President says things all the time and they hardly even make the news anymore.

Bush equated the Democrats with being "terrorists" the same day John Kerry had his slip up and it was not coverred on any major news network - basic or cable, while they were all leading with the Kerry line.

The media has no "liberal bias" - that's just an old, tired, cop-out line that conservatives use because they keep doing awful things and the media actually reports it. Shocking - it's almost like that is their job!

Nothing gives me more of a good chuckle that the complete hypocrisy and lunacy when conservative/Republicans all over the media (TV, radio, print, Internet) cry and whine about the "liberal media bias".

Human calling Bush the anti Christ makes one wonder if you are not a plant here on this web .

I know Bush's testimony , seen the fruit in his life , his repentence form his previous life style ,

The worse you can say honestly and intellectually is he miss calculated , or his advisors on what he considered a noble mission . QWhat insight to his evil do you have the majority of Americans do not . The economy is pretty good , more people are living better , minorities have a better percentage of graduation and college entrances, its not al gloom and doom . I know Christians who have met him , and they all talk of his faith and it being the anchor in his life . So because he is a person who believes in republican themes , he is the anti Christ . And you who believe in candidates who provide tax payer abortions expect an intellectual exchange from people ?

Anything else is pure political conjecture , and nothing you know for sure . The billions spent on HIV and Aids care in Africa ,not talked about by the left , the exploding budget with money spent on education , etc is something I disagree with . But to say even my point that education should be more localy controled and funded is nothing i would say a person was of the devil if they believed the Feds should be paying so much for it .. That is a difference of opinion . But any honest person can only say that your arrogance , lack of civility Human is apparent , and the good book tells us not even to give the impression of evil , so why do you continue to do so , not apologize when others have found you hurtful , or as John Kerry apologizes , you do so because of our lack of intelligence on their or my part of scripture or knowledge of God in our lives ..

So sad . The death and destructin , the lives that were hoped to be improved in Iraq is the cause that was and is noble . If it does not work out that way , just as many attempts to overcome evil have failed , it is the attempt that be judeged my friend , our hearts , you have a black heart that you put on others .

Agree that the Bible is the source for Truth.

Disagree that the media back pedals the miscues of Democrats - John Kerry's pathetic joke is making headlines everywhere including progressive radio, talk show ad nauseum.

Is that correct or not??

I have to agree that it is going too far to call Bush "the anti-Christ" (which I have not ever done). I don't think that is something any of us should be so bold as to do and I certainly wouldn't say he has fit the ideas I've been lead to believe would be true about the anti-Christ.

I think there are a lot more accurate and less glowing ways to assess the situation with Iraq than the one Mick just did there. It's not noble. At all. You don't have to repeatedly lie about your reasoning for doing something when it's truly noble. And it is certainly being grossly midcalculated, poorly planned, and terribly executed.

There are lots of other issues. The economy is not as good as Mick makes it sound and the reason the budget is out of control has nothing to do with education -not even close. But there are good things out there too, like minorities getting advancement and the aid regarding Africa and AIDS (which lots of people on the left do talk about).

But it's not right to call Bush the anti-Christ. It's lowering yourself to the level of the demonizing of the Democrats that Gary and so many others make a habit of doing on here.

Hi Mick,

Generally you asked a good and fair question (except for the last sentence - hopefully you can review).

Main point at the moment - I did not say (nor believe) that Bush is the Anti-Christ - quite honestly that would be way too much credit for someone who has not succeeded at anything but bringing great misery to the world. Cheney - maybe...

I DID say he is anti-Christ - even now there are a great many in the world. This description reflects those who would engage in violence against peaceful human beings, who would drop bombs on urban areas where they knowingly will murder children, who will support the butcher's of Israel in their massacre of innocent Lebanese children entirely unconnected with the terrorist Hezbollah, etc., etc.

When Bush decides there are more important things to do than to focus on what other people are doing with their genitals, I will tend to give him a breath of credibility.

Maybe that will clarify my perspective.

Peace,
In Christ,

Human

Thanks for the link - this was indeed a fascinating link.

With all due respect to integrity and truth, I think we should wait a little long before skewering Ted as lying slimy hypocrite; HOWEVER, interesting points are being made that should compel us to be very dubious about his claims of innocence.

I well recall the days of Jimmy Swaggert - who clearly was a lying, slimy, hypocrite.

Gary - In the interest of Judeo-Christian values, I assume you were pull no punches in exposing such hypocrisy if that is indeed what it is. Gary??

What about the other theocrats - will they use the same measure of lambasting that they used for John Kerry who, at worst, said something stupid. If so, then I should see the FNF blog just light up with livid, viscous anger and rage toward Haggard.

Hmmm...I wonder if we will maintain our integrity in this regard. A genuine disciple of Christ would certainly do so.

I hope, of course, that it is not so, BUT we have seen this charade so many times, I am keeping my hopes at a minimum.

Peace,
In Christ,

Well the news keeps coming out - now Ted Haggard - big, gay-bashing, homosexual theocrat has admitted "some guilt" - he is also a philandering, drug-abusing, adulter that is being supported by your boy James Dobson - king of hypocrisy and oppression.

If FNF really has any integrity and any care about Judeo Christian principles we should see a MAJOR SLAM ON HAGGARD'S LIES, HYPOCRISIES AND ADULTRY.

After the 2 blog slam on Kerry's silly, stupid joke - botched or not - let's talk about real sin and evil.

Gary - time to cut loose.

Peace,

The way I see it, it is the leadership of the liberals that Gary is talking about. And I believe they capitalize on the uneducated. There is an old saying "Republicans are the givers and Democrats are the takers". I assumed that is why you are a socialist (per your own website)--you have much to gain by it.

Wow ,

who hides behind children then uses them as bombs to kill innocents , the people you are defending .

The United States has sacrificed our own troops in order to try to keep civilians from harm .

This portrait of how we have conducted this war is pathetic , and obviously propaganda that even the Terrorists have tried to use to gain sympathy .

I find your words treasonous , a slap in the face to our boys over there who have risked their lives , have been killed , and to all the families of those who know what is happening , and the murdeous cowards who are commiting these acts of barbaric behavior in the name oftheir religion .

You sir , are either very mis informed or a liar .

have you read their newspapers , the liars and cowards who are Jews they say .. Who allowed a terrorist organization safe refuge in their own land , then allowed them to take shots , 1000's of missles were fired at Israel .

Can anyone guess what would happen to Victorial if they were shooting at us here ..

The innocent die , what war does not massive innocent die , and when you have an enemy that continnues to use women and children as shields , as propaganda as they murder innocent people , well explain to be a reasonable response when the reasonable respone is to make sure they quit doing it . Explain to me dropping atomic bombs on Japan is justified because of 3000 men who died at Pearl Harbor , thats not how you measure war , 2000 dies , so you kill 2000 to make it fair .. War is not fair , its meant to stop the enemy from doing whatever you are doing ..

To put your godless opinion in this matter is just wrong .. You are a secularist humanist in your thinkiing Human , and you use that world view to judge people in a Bibical arena . That is why your views are not shared by those in Christian media , Music , Organizations , and every day Christians , your views come from the world , not of God .

I'm not defending what you or Human or anyone has said about the attack on Iraq or anything else, but I know it's a hot button topic for you and while it will be a challenge, I encourage you to remember there are lots of very different stories about what is going on there and without being there no one can know for sure what is true or not.

Mick,

Patriotism is of Satan - it is anti-Christ. You need to wash your mind, as we all do, of this hideous evil that separates us from man-kind with an artifical man-made set of cultural conceptions.

I see Bush who is the treasonous individual in his foisting of violence on both the American people and the people of this world. This is not to speak of his crimes against humanity.

We are called to a new Kingdom - a Kingdom that is NOT America - a kingdom where peace and love AND TRUTH reign supreme. We are in that kingdom when we manifest it to all those around us. A Kingdom not as the world give I - the Bush regime, the Saddam regime, etc.

The reality is that I don't defend evil anywhere - I hate all those who would bring violence though I try to understand in particular those who would give their own lives to do so as opposed to their cowards in Washington DC who give the lives of your son, my son and daughter and all of our sons and daughters.

This is Christ.

Peace,

We need to lift up and be proud of american soldiers and what they are doing. We voted President Bush into office. We have to stand firm and support him. Period. Not one of us could do his job. Many think they can. You might not like his choices. You may think somone else could do better. But ya know what- ONLY GOD CAN DO WHAT IS RIGHT ALL THE TIME> Too many here either disrespect god or disrespect the president and that is wrong. We would never spit in a kings eye. We would be killed. There is something our kids no longer do. And that is respect elders. Respect authority. Your vote comes up in 2008 until then try and show your children to respect authority and be proud to be an american.Even if you do not approve of Bushes choices he was not the only one to approve it.

Conservative Republicans are pro family & compassionate. THAT IS THE BIG
LIE. It is called "Fleecing the rubes."

Here is the formula to find them out.

(1) Listen to what they say.
(2) Look at what they do .
(3) Then compare 1 with 2.

If there is a contradiction, then they are not about what they say they
are.

If you compare what Conservative Republicans
say (we are pro family) with what they do
( vote against labor , against enviroment ,against health & saftety &
against education) there is a
contradiction!!!
