Kentucky Promotes A Secularized America

The Kentucky Board of Education has voted to take the first step in redefining how America dates its time.

The board has voted to include a new secular system of dating the calendar. They want to add to the traditional B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (Anto Domini, “The year of our Lord”) a secularized, B.C.E. (Before the Common Era) and C.E. (Common Era).

This new secular system of time dating will appear in the curriculum and other materials used by Kentucky educators. This new system is already being included in new versions of text books being used across the country.

This new method will, of course, replace the birth of Christ as the dividing point in history.  It would change 2006 from A.D. to C.E. (Common Era).

Dr. Jedidah Morse, one of our Founding Fathers said, “To the kindly influence of Christianity, we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoy. In proportion, as the genuine effects of Christianity are diminished in any nation, either through unbelief, or the corruption of its doctrines, or the neglect of its institutions; in the same proportion will the people of the nation recede from the blessings of genuine freedom.”

BCE could also be read 'Before the Christian Era' if one wished.

However, the point is that it's important to ignore the Golden Rule that says that we should to unto others as we would have them do unto us, and force all non-Christians to acknowledge the supremacy of Christ, even when writing down dates.

If the shoe were on the other foot, say, with the Pledge of Allegiance and we were saying 'one nation under Buddha' or 'one nation under Allah' or 'one nation under The Flying Spaghetti Monster', I'm sure that fault-finding fundamentalist Christocrats would complain. But - it's ok force Muslims, Jews, atheists and others to acknowledge the supremacy of the Christian version of God. Never mind that when it was written in 1892 the pledge didn't have that line about 'under God'; that was a political insertion made in 1954 to counter the so-called godless Communists by pushing righteousness in everybody's face. Sort of like the illogical statement of how proud we are to be Americans now that we've suffered 9/11.

This is another instance of trying to blow smoke about some non-issue and ignore the real message of Jesus. Would He care if we used B.C. or B.C.E.? I think not; He didn't come here to save us from historians, and He didn't think much of the legalists of His day, either.

You are missing the point. If Gary doesn't blow smoke about silly ideas and claim that it is a great conspiracy to secularize the world, then people won't feel the need to send donations and he would be out of job. It's just a scare tactic.

It is still a market economy, and what he needs to say is what will keep the donations coming in to keep the lights on.

Perhaps he should expand the business model and start selling indulgences online. hmmm...

That would be all-American capitalism, wouldn't it? Yeah, indulgences.com, like Amazon but with catagories for venial and mortal sins, plus anything new since the last batch of indulgences was passed out, like nose-picking at a traffic light, or serving box wine to guests and passing it off as the good stuff. My favorite sin lists, personal recommendations based on past indulgence purchases, wish lists of the indulgences you'd like other people to buy for you...oh, the possibilities!

'Course, as you pointed out, Anon., there's no fear involved with that and Gary can't keep them bucks rollin' in without it.

Maybe Gary needs a real job, like with the NSA? I hear they like to pry into people's lives as much as Gary does, and they have a much wider group to work with.

In 1923 Soviet Russia abolished both the Julian calendar, used by the Russian Orthodox Church, and the official Gregorian calendar that had been installed by Lenin.
A new calendar was introduced, in which the weeks were changed and all religious holy days were replaced by five national public holidays associated with the Revolution. Sundays were abolished , can't have a day of restwith God involved . Figures the God Haters , the people who think government gives them happiness would be for the kentucky deal . Of course the Soviet Union killed millions of their own people , amazing thing ,God is still around and all the calendar folks are dead and buried .

Research from the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) found that 84% of LGBT students report being verbally harassed because of their sexual orientation.2 However, the National Center for Education Statistics found that only 1% to 2% of students aged 12-18 had been called a derogatory word related to their religion, disability, or sexual orientation.3 More research needs to be done on this issue, but no matter what the numbers say, we know that the use of anti-gay slurs at school is a problem.
