Merry Christmas

All of us at Faith & Freedom would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

I felt quote by E. Merril Root would be appropriate for this Christmas Day.

"Truth is not a discovery, but a renewal. Truth is like a bell -- it's vibrations fade from the moment it is struck, and to find truth, we must strike the bell again and yet again, that it may not be forgotten, but renewed.

Christmas is a bell hung in the center of history, the bell of heaven that concludes the past and initiates the future."

Well, the best season of the year is here again and one thing that is even nicer is that it can be shared in a new way. The internet does allow people to share the beauty, and real meaning of Christmas, with people of like mind even when we haven't met them. But, we feel as though we've met them when we share our mutual love of, and gratefulness, to Jesus Christ.

I've had some difficult times in my life and that includes over some Christmas holidays. I wrote about some of them for a town newspaper back in the eighties and I have that article posted on my web site.

It has always been frustrating to me when people have turned Christmas into something other than being joyful over the birth of Christ. That is because it is remembering this joy that allowed me to remain joyful no matter what my situation. I learned that as a child. It was one of the most important lessons of my life.

This Christmas I'm admonishing myself for allowing myself to be emotionally led astray by recent news about what has happened regarding Christmas. Attacking Christmas is, of course, attacking the Lord. That always hurts, and even though we all know that God has the final triumph it smarts when it appears that Satan has had his way.

Lars Larson has had to refrain from his original intent to place a cross at Pioneer Square. The laws of the day are such that it apparently will put too many people in jeopardy. Serious threats have been made and the radio station cannot risk law suits.

Thus Christ will be shut out of any so-called 'holiday' display at Pioneer Square, in Portland, unless someone else manages to do something in spite of the threats of harm and lawsuits.

Fortunately, we all still have the ability to use our homes for any free expression we wish. We also have our web site and blogs.

Let's revel in that God-given liberty. -- The Oregon Conservative

Sharing the 'real' meaning of christmas, does that mean threatening to boycott businesses that try to welcome all customers, not just christians, with a Happy Holidays message rather than acknowledging a single religion with 'Merry Christmas'. I'm sure Christ would have been right out there leading the protest against Target.

Get real about the Lars cross thing. There were no verifiable threats of violence. There was certainly no legal risk of putting a religous symbol on private property next to the square (although Lars never really disclosed that it wasn't to be on the square directly). But what if it had been on the square, there are rules to accommodate such a display which is how the menorah has been displayed for years. Lars' plan for cross display was curtailed by upper management for pr reasons, not legal or violent exposure (but he'd never admit that) Christmas is not under attack. The concept is simply a great fundraiser for evangelists.

btw - your liberty and freedom of religion is courtesy of the founding fathers, not a diety. Most of them were deists and very wary of organized religion. You have total freedom of religion as you would in all secular nations, unlike in religous nations. Think about what it would be like to be a christian in Iran. But then again, maybe that's how you'd like it to be for a Muslim in the USA.
